** FILLING MULTIPLE 1-3 MONTH ASSIGNMENTS **
Purpose of Volunteer Role: The Visitor Services Host assists campground operations and improves visitor experience by providing direct service at the park’s visitor center and/or museum store, maintaining the park’s woodbins, and serving in the campground’s entry stations in the summer months. Host volunteer helps maintain park areas by supporting landscaping and facilities at the park.
Amenities: Shared use of a golf cart/utility vehicle, cell booster located at the ranger station.
Site Information: Paved pad, 30 or 50-amp power, water and sewer provided. Picnic table and fire pit at site.
Length of Assignment: 1-3 months depending on availability and season. New hosts may only be offered a 1-month trial assignment.
Daily Expectation of Hours: 4-6 daily depending on workload
General Responsibilities:
· Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.
· Open and close woodbins daily, woodbins are expected to be open by 8am and closed at dusk.
· Organize, inventory, and maintain cleanliness of woodbins and shared spaces.
· Provide general restroom maintenance, including restocking supplies.
· Operate and maintain small powered equipment.
· Clean-up and debris removal.
· Alert staff to safety issues, facility issues, and major cleaning needs.
· Provide general site maintenance, including cleaning out fire pits, light landscaping, and sweeping.
· Operate utility vehicles (golf carts, gators, etc.).
Additional Responsibilities:
· Provide screening of park visitors entering the campground.
· Contacts are observation and information only.
· Aid park staff by recording license plate numbers of incoming reservation holders on issued paperwork.
· Operate point of sale system.
· Sweep floors, turn on exhibit lights, raise and lower flags.
· Stock and prepare museum store for customers.
· Open and close the Memorial Rose Garden.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
· Ability walk long distances, stand for long periods of time, perform repeated motions such as shoveling or raking.
· Ability to bend, crouch, twist, push and pull.
· Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.
· Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
Transportation Requirements:
· Park vehicles are not provided for transport to and from the Fort Stevens Historical Area.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
· Be at least 18 years old.
· Must be approved for driving and pass a background check.
· A host who is able to work and communicate in a team.

Restricted Tasks:
· Volunteers may NOT enforce park rules. Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by paid park staff with enforcement training.
Training Provided: Volunteers will be provided training during orientation. Volunteers will be signed off on tools, gas powered equipment, and use of PPE prior to engaging in service or on a specific project. The Friends of Old Fort Stevens store manager will provide training necessary to the museum store duties.
Equipment Provided: All equipment necessary to complete a volunteer task or project will be provided, including PPE.
Other Resources Provided: Hosts will be provided a resource guide and keys at orientation. First time hosts will be provided a host site sign, uniforms, and a Special Access Pass for travel at their first assignment.
