Volunteer Activities• Campground Host • Other • Trail/Campground Maintenance • Tour Guide/Interpretation • Visitor Information Photo Courtesy of BLM DescriptionThe Nestucca River Recreation Area takes travelers along a slow, leisurely route that winds through Oregon’s Coast Range on the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway. The Byway runs adjacent to the Nestucca River. Whether you are exploring by car, motorcycle or bicycle, you’ll find a riverside picnic table or camping spot at any of four BLM campgrounds located along the route. There are 37 campsites in the Alder Glen, Dovre, Fan Creek and Elk Bend Recreation Sites that offer steel fire rings, picnic tables, potable water and restrooms. We are looking for a couple or an individual to serve as campground host at Alder Glen Campground. The position is for a minimum of two months (May 30th through October 30th) with the possibility of being extended through the winter. Campground Host duties: The volunteer campground host will: provide information to campers about park and area resources, monitor campers to ensure compliance with established regulations, report maintenance issues, provide minor upkeep at the campground, notify appropriate staff in case of an emergency, Communicate effectively with staff to keep up to date on campsites assignments. If the host is interested, there may also be opportunities to assist with leading volunteer work groups. Hosts will volunteer 32 hours a week with the primary focus being Thursday-Sunday. Requirements: This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes to meet people of all ages and backgrounds, loves working with people, and enjoys variety in their days. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with people of all ages and abilities and have strong communication skills. The volunteer will be working without daily supervision, and must be self-motivated. Also required: Valid state Driver’s License Must be able to walk on uneven terrain Provide his or her own tent / RV / Trailer and camping / cooking equipment Note: Start and end dates may be flexible.
