Alsea Falls Recreation Site offers 21 overnight campsites and 15 picnic sites along the pristine South Fork Alsea River. The campground offers potable water, tent pads, fire rings, picnic tables, and vault toilets. Make sure to plan a ride on the exceptional downhill flow style mountain biking trails or to take a scenic hike to several waterfalls! Alsea Falls Recreation Site is located along a byway, located in the Oregon Coast Range, 13 miles west of Monroe, Oregon, in Benton County. Alsea Falls is open for camping May 1 through September 30 of each year. The South Fork of the Alsea River flows through the Alsea Falls Recreation Site, cascading down 30 feet to form Alsea Falls in the day use area. During the winter months, the South Fork of the Alsea River provides excellent salmon and steelhead fishing. Be sure to check with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for current fishing regulations. We are looking for a couple or an individual to serve as campground host at Alsea Falls Recreation Area. The position is for a minimum of two months (May 30th through October 30th) with the possibility of being extended through the winter. Campground Host duties: The volunteer campground host will: provide information to campers about park and area resources, monitor campers to ensure compliance with established regulations, report maintenance issues, provide minor upkeep at the campground, notify appropriate staff in case of an emergency, Communicate effectively with staff to keep up to date on campsites assignments. If the host is interested, there may also be opportunities to assist with leading volunteer work groups. Hosts will volunteer 32 hours a week with the primary focus being Thursday-Sunday.       Benefits include: A free campsite, daily reimbursement to offset incidental costs, government vehicle, trainings, and propane reimbursement. The opportunity to live and work in this area is a once in a lifetime experience.   Requirements: This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes to meet people of all ages and backgrounds, loves working with people, and enjoys variety in their days. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working with people of all ages and abilities and have strong communication skills. The volunteer will be working without daily supervision, and must be self-motivated. Also required: Valid state Driver’s License Must be able to walk on uneven terrain Provide his or her own tent / RV / Trailer and camping / cooking equipment Note: Start and end dates may be flexible.
