DESCRIPTION:

Seeking to fill 2 Visitor Center Host positions from May 1 – September 7, 2021.

Ice Harbor Lock and Dam Visitor Center is located on the snake river before the river merges with the Columbia River. The lake formed behind the Ice Harbor Lock and Dam is named Lake Sacajawea that provides various recreational opportunities such as camping, hiking, swimming, water sports, upland hunting, and angling. You will enjoy informing visitors about local history and watching the Salmon run through fish passage viewing windows.

As Visitor Center Host your main job duties include meeting and greeting the public, and giving tours. Additionally, you will be asked to assist rangers on various project i.e. water safety programs, organizing, writing etc. within each volunteers’ strengths. General cleaning such as wiping down items and running sweeper in office shall be performed as well. A typical work schedule consists of working 7 hours per day, 3 days a week with three days off. We will provide all supplies and training to perform each task. An RV/trailer site with full hook-ups (water, electric, and sewer) will be provided.

 

DUTIES
Assisting with larger group tours
Giving small group tours
Greeting visitors of all ages with varied backgrounds
Answering visitor questions
Helping with a Movie Night at a nearby park.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Desire to work a minimum of 21 hours per week and live in a natural outdoor setting, with you own RV.
Desire to meet and interact with people from varied backgrounds.
Appearance should be neat and reflect positively on the Corps.
Ability to remain calm in busy situations.
Ability to give walking tours of the dam.
Visually able to spot safety hazards and take prompt appropriate action to correct in accordance with training provided.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position mostly takes place indoors except when giving tours across the dam, which may require extended periods during adverse conditions such as heat and rain. Volunteers are expected to have the ability to work independently but generally work with other volunteers and USACE staff.
