It’s that time of year again, Amazon CamperForce is officially underway! If you are completely unaware of what CamperForce is, let me give you the simplest explanation possible. CamperForce is an opportunity for RVers to work a seasonal position at an Amazon facility. Even if you have participated before you may want to keep reading, as it looks like there are some changes this year from prior years, so let’s get down to business.

Wages

No big surprise but this category did not have any changes to it as far as I can tell. Staring pay is still $15.00 per hour and some sites might offer shift differentials based on your assigned shift. You will be paid weekly and they do pay overtime(if applicable).

Campsite

Previously, Amazon would pay up to $550 directly to a participating campground. This meant you had to stay at a campground they had on an approved list and the money was paid directly to that campground. This year things are a bit different. Instead of having to stay at an approved site, you can make your reservations and stay where you want. What is the catch then? The catch is now they pay $120.00 weekly as a part of your very taxable paycheck. To me, it sounds like an improvement as far as campground selection goes but a trade-off with the amount they pay towards your site and how they pay it. Couples, where both people are hired, will have an easier time paying for a site by doubling up that weekly amount, but those riding solo will get hit a bit harder. In either case, because it will now be paid out in your weekly paycheck instead of directly to the campground, you are really getting even less with the taxman getting his cut. Also worth noting, the available locations/facilities you may apply to appears to have changed this year as well, with some being removed as options and several added. If you’ve done this in the past you may want to double-check, you might have either lost or gained new options.

Assignment Completion Bonus

Amazon kept this in play, and I think it was a smart decision. If you stick around to the end, Amazon will pay you an “Assignment Completion Bonus”. You will get fifty cents for each regular hour worked and one dollar for each overtime hour worked. So as far as working for Amazon for the season goes, it literally pays to finish what you started.
