ADDRESS: NA  Blanding, Utah, 84511

DATES: 2025-05-01

DEPT: Forest Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Moab/Monticello Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest in southeastern Utah is looking for volunteer camp hosts for some of our developed campgrounds.  We are looking for an individual or a couple to live at and work in our beautiful campgrounds.  The positions are available typically from late April/early May and usually until early or mid-October.  The dates are flexible due to weather conditions in spring and fall. The work schedule is typically Thursday though Monday as most people recreate and visit public lands on the weekend. Two days off in the middle of the week can be spent relaxing in the campground or spent exploring the amazing landscapes in and around the forest.  General tasks include posting reservations, cleaning and maintaining campsites and facilities, ensuring safety and compliance of regulations and acting as a liaison between the public and the US Forest Service.  These positions are reimbursed volunteer positions and are not to be considered employment with the US Forest Service or US Government.

Devils Canyon Campground is located just off of Highway 191 between the southeastern Utah towns of Monticello and Blanding.  It weaves in and around the small drainages around Devils Canyon at 7100 feet above sea level.  It has 42 individual sites spread about a Ponderosa, Pinyon Pine and Juniper forest.  There are two loops–North and South–and the South Loop offers larger pull through RV style camping sites while the North Loop offers a mix of different campsites for smaller trailers and tent camping. This campground is very popular with passersby, RV travelers, and has very happy repeat campers year after year.  It is the only campground that is fully paved to each site and easy access from the highway makes this very popular in the spring and fall months.  Summer months are often slower with high temperatures in the 80s to low 90s.  There is a very short , 1/4 mile interpretative trail at the end of the North Loop that was recently updated and rebuilt.  The host site has water, sewer and electrical hookups and Monticello and Blanding are less than 10-15 minutes in either direction of the campground.
