Enjoy a unique Camp Host experience immersed in the towering trees, abundant wildlife, and star-filled night skies of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks (SEKI). SEKI is seeking an enthusiastic, service-oriented Camp Host at the Wolverton Volunteer Service Camp to help create welcoming and positive experiences for researchers and individual and group volunteers who stay overnight while volunteering in the parks. The Wolverton Service Camp, a ~20-site campground located near the Giant Forest, operates seasonally from late May through September. The Camp Host is recruited and supervised by the park’s Volunteers-in-Parks Program in the Division of Interpretation, and the incumbent serves as a vital team member supporting camp oversight, volunteer experiences, and park stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and orient campers; provide friendly, professional customer service; and resolve minor issues
Rove the site to educate visitors about park regulations, including proper food storage in black bear habitat
Share basic information about trip planning, recreation, safety considerations, and visitor services
Communicate with volunteer campers in a respectful, courteous way, and ensure they have a safe and enjoyable stay
Help maintain campground cleanliness, including light trash pickup, porta-potty upkeep, and minor maintenance tasks
Serve as a point of contact when park staff is unavailable, including after hours and during emergencies
Monitor campground conditions and communicate concerns to supervisors
Requirements, Commitments, & Schedules
The full camp host season lasts ~20 weeks. A minimum 10-week volunteer service commitment is required.
32-40 hours of volunteer service per week, including weekends and holidays
Hosts are responsible for providing brown/khaki pants and appropriate footwear
Must adhere to park regulations, policies, and camp protocols
Park Provided Items
Volunteer uniform items (e.g., shirt, hat, outerwear)
Free host campsite during volunteer service. Sites are outfitted with a picnic table, camp chairs, and locking storage.
12’x12′ canvas wall tent for hosts, if desired
Shared outdoor kitchen
Potable water and portable restrooms
Park radio, solar power bank, cooking and dining equipment (e.g., stoves, pots, pans, dishes), and other supplies and equipment
Training in safety, orientation, park policies and procedures, and the National Park Service mission
Host Campsite Amenities
The host campsite accommodations can vary depending on the needs of the individual hosts. Hosts with RVs and camper vans under 25 feet are encouraged to apply (note the camp does not have electric or water hookups). A canvas wall tent mounted on a wooden platform with a raised bed and storage areas is also available to hosts, if desired. Host sites are outfitted with picnic tables, camp chairs, locking storage, and a solar power bank. Potable water is available on-site.

Free dump/fill station for hosts in RVs or camper vans
Shower and laundry facilities
Park Shuttles, a market, park stores, restaurants, and visitor centers
Public Wi-Fi (Verizon 5G is available at Camp)
