DATES:

DEPT: National Park Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The campground host is stationed at the Lake Fork campground in Curecanti National Recreation Area near Gunnison, Colorado. Hosts work 32-40 hours per week and are managed by the National Park Service. The hours may be divided between a couple. Uniform shirts are provided and required. Hosts are front-line National Park Service ambassadors who provide a welcoming environment to visitors. Position is available from mid-May, and goes through the end of September.

Lake Fork Campground is located on US Highway 50, 25 miles west of Gunnison, CO. Lake Fork is located just above Blue Mesa Dam and is one of the primary marinas for Blue Mesa Reservoir. There is no visitor center at Lake Fork, so camp hosts are often the front line for visitor questions. Amenities include 50A electric, water and sewer. Cell phone reception varies by carrier. High winds are frequent. The vegetation is mostly sagebrush and has few trees. 90 camp sites are paved and used mostly by RVs. There are a few walk-in sites for tent campers. There are scenic views of rock pinnacles and mesas. Visitors to this campground are mostly boaters and anglers.
