Job Description
The volunteer park host helps maintain and protect Sturdivant Park. They must live in the park at the designated location and have a sign (provided by City) identifying them as park hosts.
Park Host Responsibilities:
• Provide own mobile camping unit (recreational vehicle, trailer, or other acceptable shelter approved by the City of Coquille) to reside in the designated Park Host space. Along with proof of liability insurance for all vehicles.
• Be responsible for occupying premises the majority of the time as would any resident occupy their home. Will report to the Public Works Director any periods of absence to exceed 24 hours or more.
• Be responsible for the observation and security of Park property including the restrooms, athletic fields, docks, gazeboes, and other structures. This role of security requires direct verbal warnings to violators in a tactful manner and the notification of proper authorities (Police, Fire or City Management) in the event of improper conduct of users or intruders in the City Park.
• Be responsible for and report activities within the park and camp area requiring immediate attention – including any destruction of Park property, maintenance of foliage, or situations that could affect the health and safety of visitors.
• Serve as a host to residents and guests in the park. This includes being of service in answering questions, providing guidance as required, and providing information on scheduled Park usage.
• Set an example to park attendees and campers by always practicing good housekeeping in and around their assigned site and by observing all rules and regulations.
• Accommodate Park rentals and events arranged through City of Coquille Community Services and be in open communication with Community Building Supervisor regarding preparation required for park rentals and events.
Customer Service/Administrative Duties:
• Greet and assist campers and day use patrons.
• Collect camping fees. Deliver camping fees to Coquille City Hall every Monday and Friday.
• Advise visitors of any park rules or regulations that might pertain to them when necessary.
• Answer questions and be familiar with park amenities and other local points of interest or services in the City of Coquille.
• Direct campers to available camping areas.
• Monitor camp for noise and camper problems.
• Respond to campers’ needs and problems in tactful manner.
• Track volunteer hours and provide log to city for insurance purposes. Turn in monthly to City Hall.
Maintenance Duties:
• Daily stocking/cleaning of park restrooms in the morning and evening
• Daily clean-up of litter in all areas of the park
• Monitor camp area between visitors to make sure the area is suitable for continued use
• Stock payment envelopes
• Notify staff when running low on payment envelopes or any other supplies
• Open and close park when needed, as directed by public works or law enforcement
Privileges:
• Full hook-up site at park campground for duration of the term of service
