DESCRIPTION:
Come spend the summer with USACE at John Martin Reservoir in Hasty, CO! Sometimes called a Sapphire on the Plains, JMR is a peaceful paradise in which people play, birds flock, and wildlife roams. It is close to social and cultural activities in Lamar, Las Animas, and La Junta, yet remote enough to feel immersed in nature. This position is perfect for the outdoor lover who wants to get their hands dirty assisting USACE in keeping this unique area beautiful!
DUTIES
Primary duties for this position are providing grounds-keeping services such as: mowing, trimming and weed pulling. The duties may require the use of operating string-trimmers, operating riding lawnmowers, using manual and power tools, machines, UTVS, and chemicals to clear vegetation. There will also be opportunities, if interested, to engage with the public and/or assist with the management of natural and cultural resources on JMR.
QUALIFICATIONS
Prior grounds-keeping experience preferred. Vehicle Operation: volunteer must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to comfortably operate a riding lawnmower, a 4×4 Truck, and a 4×4 Polaris-Style UTV (training will be provided). Volunteer may be required to operate these vehicles on improved roads near the Office, as well as off-road (in soft sand and brush).
