Bitterroot National Forest seeking Volunteer Campground Host
The Bitterroot National Forest is seeking volunteers to serve as onsite camp hosts this summer. The Darby/Sula Ranger District is looking for a camp host for the Lower Como Campground within the Lake Como Recreation Area.
Campground hosts play an important role in assisting with the management of these areas and working directly with the public. Volunteers are rewarded with a nice place to stay during the summer, a modest cost reimbursement to cover living expenses, lasting friendships, and a sense of pride in keeping the sites safe and communicating with the public about our National Forests. Power, water, and Sewer hookups are available at host site.
Be available 5 days per week and work on weekends. Toilet cleaning is a main twice daily task. We provide everything you need from cleaning supplies to PPE. Greeting arriving visitors and helping with questions is a huge part of the job. Make public contacts and being friendly and telling folks where to go recreate or eat. Update campsite “open/occupied” signs and recording campsite vehicle information daily. Recording water system readings. Site cleanup such as emptying campfire pits of ash, raking debris away from fire rings, and wiping down tables and seats. Removing any trash or debris from the sites. Also, some grounds keeping like running a string trimmer, mowing, trimming trees and brush, blowing pine needles off of paved pathways.
