DESCRIPTION:

Seeking to fill 5 Visitor Center Hosts for 3 month commitments between March and November, 2023. Position availability dependent on COVID-19 situation.

 

Provide high quality interpretive services to enhance visitor experience and understanding in a busy visitor center. Staff front information desk, greet visitors, answer visitor questions, explain Corps Missions of Flood Risk Management, Hydropower, Environmental Stewardship and Recreation, inventory lost/found items, perform minor janitorial services, customer service, educate visitors about park rules, maintain brochures, assist with education programs, roving, and promote water safety. Work long hours while being on your feet, walk up to a half mile, lift up to 25 lbs. Typical schedule is 2 on / 4 off or 3 on / 3 off depending on staffing needs. Located within the Ozark Mountains in beautiful Southwest Missouri, Table Rock Dam was built in the 1950s for flood risk management and to provide hydroelectric power. The surrounding area is a recreation paradise for fishing, hunting, hiking, caving or just plain being out in nature. Branson, MO is situated within a day’s drive of 50% of the U.S. population, and receives up to 65,000 visitors daily. Known as the “Live Entertainment Capitol of the World” with over 30 live shows daily. A local amusement park, Silver Dollar City, is sure to fulfill your need for a thrill ride and more live entertainment. The Dewey Short Visitor Center is one of the Corps’ regional visitor centers and receives an average of 150,000 visitors annual from around the world. Summers can be hot and humid at times and winters are mild but can occasionally experience below freezing temperatures and inclement weather.

 

DUTIES
Provide customer service, information, brochures, handouts, making copies, assist ranger staff, demonstrations, interpretive education programs, children activities, button making, minor janitorial services, if needed, and assist with special events.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Physically able to work at an information desk for up to 8 hours per day. Cognitive, verbal, and auditory ability to answer questions and communicate with various constituents who stop into the visitor center, desire to meet and interact with persons from varied backgrounds and lifestyles, able to commit to a minimum of 3 months, experience/skills in interpretation/education, janitorial services, ability to pass a criminal background check, and visitor center experience.
