DESCRIPTION:
The Ocracoke Island District, located within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, seeks out enthusiastic people who are happy to continue the cultivation of rich, seaside history in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
As a Pony Pen Flex volunteer, you will have the opportunity to assist with operations supporting the Ocracoke Pony herd including feeding, stall maintenance, vegetation removal, and fence maintenance among other duties. The volunteer will also have the chance to provide interpretive support in the Ocracoke Discovery Center and fulfill duties at the Ocracoke Campground to meet the minimum hours for the housing requirement.
The start and end dates of this position are flexible; however, we ask that you are available for at least 8 weeks with a maximum of 4 months, from January to August. We also ask that you are available Sundays, Mondays and some holidays to accommodate staff schedules. An RV site with full hook-ups (must provide your own RV) is available with a 32-hour a week commitment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires standing for long periods of time, shoveling, raking, lifting bales of hay. Physical exertion and agility such as walking, lifting of heavy objects, bending reaching and quickly reacting as necessary as pony behavior can be unpredictable.
