ADDRESS: Arches National Park
5 Miles north of Moab, Utah, on US 191
Moab, Utah 84532

DEPT: National Park Service

DATES: 4/28/2024 – 12/1/2024

DESCRIPTION:

Arches National Park is looking for couples or individuals to serve as volunteer campground hosts at Devils Garden Campground in 2024. Ideally, applicants will have experience in this role already and must be available to serve a minimum of one month. You must be able to work well with little supervision and make decisions independently.

We are looking for Host volunteers who will serve for one or two months in 2024. Open positions are as follows:

  • RV site: May, June and/or November

The RV campsite has water, propane, and 20-amp solar-powered electrical hook-ups. (Propane-powered appliances are advised). There are no restaurants, dump sites, wifi, or shower facilities in the campground.

Devils Garden Campground has 53 sites and 2 group sites. The campground is located near the end of the park’s 18-mile scenic road and can feel remote at times. There are no restaurants, Wi-Fi, or shower facilities in the campground or the park. Moab, UT is just five miles from the park entrance (about 25 miles from the campground) and has all services and amenities available. Cell service is spotty throughout the park.

Arches National Park is home to the largest concentration of natural stone openings in the world with over 2,000 arches and natural bridges. The stunning landscape also boasts sandstone spires and balancing rocks towering over high desert vegetation, providing habitat to snakes, lizards, rabbits, foxes, mule deer, and mountain lion. Spring and Fall are the most popular times in the park as mild temperatures provide for pleasant hiking. Temperatures in the summer can reach over 100 degrees F during the day, but the warm summer nights are perfect for watching the stars. There are plenty of activities to do and places to visit in the area on your days off.

Campground Host Duties:

Volunteers work 4 days a week, rotating with another set of hosts. You can expect to work 32+ hours per week performing the following duties:

  • Assist park visitors with campground vacancy, fee, and registration information.
  • Perform campground compliance checks using the reservation system Daily Arrival Report (DAR).
  • Keep camping areas clean, organized, and presentable; e.g. performing routine litter removal, occasional fire pit cleaning, and minor maintenance in the campground as necessary. Communicate with maintenance staff for larger issues.
  • Educate visitors about campground regulations, such as dogs off leash or generator hours. Work independently to resolve minor issues. Work with law enforcement rangers to resolve larger issues.
