Volunteer Camp Host

The Moab/Monticello Ranger District of the Manti-La Sal National Forest in southeastern Utah is looking for volunteer camp hosts for some of our developed campgrounds.  We are looking for an individual or a couple to live at and work in our beautiful campgrounds.  The positions are available typically from late April/early May and usually until early or mid-October.  The dates are flexible due to weather conditions in spring and fall. The work schedule is typically Thursday though Monday as most people recreate and visit public lands on the weekend. Two days off in the middle of the week can be spent relaxing in the campground or spent exploring the amazing landscapes in and around the forest.  General tasks include posting reservations, cleaning and maintaining campsites and facilities, ensuring safety and compliance of regulations and acting as a liaison between the public and the US Forest Service.  These positions are reimbursed volunteer positions and are not to be considered employment with the US Forest Service or US Government.

Nizhoni Campground is a jewel of a campground tucked in a Ponderosa Pine forest in the Abajo mountains just outside of Blanding, Utah.  Nizhoni, which means ‘beautiful’ in the Navajo language, Dine, is indeed divine with 21 individual sites and two group sites set slightly apart.  There is access to countless recreation opportunities including, hiking, biking, 4-wheeling, climbing, fishing, swimming and non-motorized watersports on the Dry Wash Reservoir within walking distance of the campground.  There is water seasonally available and sewer hook-ups for hosts, however, there is no electrical connections.  The town of Blanding is about 15-20 minutes away and offers all the amenities of a small idyllic Utah town.
