Job Description
Seeking Volunteer Campground Hosts for Douglas City Campground, Steel Bridge Campground, and Junction City Campground in Trinity County along the Trinity River near Weaverville, CA.
Positions are from April 15 – December 1 (flexible to some extent and subject to change depending on weather). Please see the following details for more information and how to apply.
The campground host will serve as the official BLM representative in the campground. He/she greets visitors, provides information to the public, and helps with campground management. Daily tasks include but are not limited to ensuring visitor compliance with rules and regulations, monitoring daily campground fee compliance, cleaning and stocking restrooms, picking up litter, and performing light maintenance tasks.
The campground host is expected to be committed to their duties at the campground and be available during daytime and weekend hours, therefore outside work or existing jobs are not permitted while being a host for BLM. The host will receive a $25 per day reimbursement. Couples are allowed to be campground hosts, but they will be reimbursed as a single person.
- There are 3 campgrounds available for hosts. Douglas City Campground, Steel Bridge Campground, and Junction City Campground.
- Douglas City Campground has full hookups including electricity, sewage, and water as well as heated showers.
- Junction City Campground has NO water but DOES have electricity and sewage hook ups.
- Steel Bridge Campground has NO water, NO sewage hookup, and LIMITED electricity from a solar array.
- The camp host will need to provide their own lodging facilities ie; RV, Van, camping setup, etc.
- Campgrounds range from 13 to 23 sites.
- All sites are first-come-first-serve. No reservations.
- Cell phone signal exists but is very weak and intermittent.
- Closest town to campgrounds (approximately 15 minute drive) is Weaverville.
Popular with fisherman and pleasure boaters alike, this clear, cold section of the river is world famous for its fly fishing. Paddlers enjoy the narrow valley with Ponderosa Pine, Douglas fir, Oaks, and Madrone trees coating the walls of the canyons. If you would like more adrenaline rush, the waters below Pigeon Point rage at class III-V for white water enthusiasts. Those interested in a more relaxing experience can enjoy the abundant camping options in the area or head for the trail with your friends, horses, or dog. If you would like to stay at the river’s edge, you can always swim, fish or do a little gold panning. The river can be accessed from many locations along this stretch of the Trinity River.
