Relief Greeting Host

NOTE: Assignments are available for 1-3 months. New volunteers may only be offered one-month assignments. Not all months within the date range are necessarily available.

Current availability: March, April, June, December

Location of Assignment: William Tugman State Park, Lakeside

Campsite: A42, a 42’ site with water, sewer, 30 & 50 amp electric service.

Time Commitment: 4 hours per day, 3 days per week cleaning, and 6 hours per day, 2 days per week greeting (total 24 hours per week)

Schedule: 10AM – 4PM on cleaning days, 2PM – 8PM on greeting days.

Purpose of Volunteer Role: The greeting relief host operates as both a yurt host and a greeting host onto cover the primary greeter’s days off. The Relief Host supports park operations by cleaning and maintaining yurts, cabins, and campsites, performing general campground maintenance tasks, and by providing excellent customer service to park visitors.

General Responsibilities:

·         Perform general cleaning and servicing of yurts, including: emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, and wiping down mattresses and surfaces. Hosts may be assigned up to 5 yurts per day.

·         Alert staff to safety issues, facility issues, and major cleaning needs.

·         Provide general site maintenance, including cleaning out fire pits, light landscaping, and sweeping.

·         Operate golf carts.

·         General landscaping duties including: pruning, raking, weeding, mowing, and trimming.

·         Respond to visitor, staff, and volunteer requests in an attentive and respectful manner.

·         Assist with campground guest check-in and checkout.

·         Provide excellent customer service for park visitors by giving out accurate information about the park, park activities, and the surrounding areas.

·         Support, sell, and restock firewood and bicycle helmet sales through operation of Ventek machine (no cash handling).

·         Hosts may volunteer for additional tasks and projects not mentioned above.

Restricted Tasks:

·         Enforce park rules: Hosts may share information on park rules with visitors, but volunteers do not enforce rules or make initial contacts for rule infractions. This activity is only performed by paid park staff with enforcement training.

·         Operate heavy machinery—including tractors, riding mowers, chainsaws, etc.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

·         Be at least 18 years old.

·         Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

·         Ability to travel on uneven terrain, as well as be stationary for long periods of time.

·         Ability to bend over to wipe down tables and mattresses, and to sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.

·         Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.

·         Valid driver’s license
