DESCRIPTION:

Maintain a welcoming campground and day use site while interacting with visitors.

Troy Meadows Campground and the overflow area are in the Kern Plateau about 49 miles from Kernville and 59 miles from Ridgecrest. This campground has a total of 73 sites and is a popular destination for off-highway vehicle users. The campground is a high country site, located at an elevation of 7800 feet.

 

DUTIES

Host or hostess will often serve as the first form of contact for visitors and is an integral part of the district recreation program in providing quality experience and safe environment to the visiting public. The volunteer will educate the public about leave no trace, remind visitors about campfire safety, and provide information on recreational opportunities available in the area. Facilities such as bathrooms and walkways will be cleaned on a predetermined schedule. Personal protective equipment and tools necessary to accomplish tasks will be provided by the Forest Service.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Camp host or hostess will maintain campground facilities. They provide a variety of information to visitors ensuring a safe and positive visitor experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Visitation can be medium to heavy in the campgrounds. Holiday weekends are the busiest with most sites being occupied. Campground host or hostess must be comfortable interacting with various user groups and tolerate loud noise during the day. The campground serves as a connector trail to popular off highway vehicle trails in the Sequoia National Forest.
