ADDRESS: Reelfoot National Wildlife Refuge

Union City, Tennessee 38261

DEPT: Fish & Wildlife Service

DATES: 4/1/2024 – 6/30/2024

DESCRIPTION:

This position (couple OR solo) is specifically to assist in our field trip season. Mid April through the end of June are very busy with field trips, offsite programs, a youth fishing rodeo, Jr. Ranger Camp, etc. The volunteer coordinator and volunteers are the only ones who conduct field trips. Programs are short (approx. 15 minutes), easy and simple to learn, and volunteers will be trained on programs beforehand. Programs such as Birding 101, owl pellet dissection, archery, canoeing, scat and tracks, live snake presentation, leaf rubbing, watching a movie, scavenger hunt in the Visitor Center, etc are our typical programs we offer to students/teachers. We do ask that you are physically able to lift a canoe (with help) overhead to take off and on a trailer, and working in hot, humid and buggy weather is expected. We will still ask the volunteers in this position to keep the Visitor Center open and/or do outdoor maintenance. We ask that volunteers work (3) consecutive eight hour days (8am-4:00) in exchange for your site. We are flexible and have a great family atmosphere. Please call for additional details, I would love to speak with you regarding this fun time of year!
