Ideally, we would like someone who can volunteer all season (May-October).

Overview and Duties

Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located along the banks of the Yellowstone River and is the only surviving marker along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Visitors can ascend the steps to the signature that was left behind by William Clark, or ascend to the top of the Pillar for a panoramic view of the area.

As an interpretation site host, your duties will consist of:

  1. Providing interpretive programs, talks, or tours
  2. Interacting with the public to provide a positive experience
  3. Assisting with special events at the site
  4. Ensuring the visitor center is kept clean and tidy

The season starts on May 1st and runs until October 1st. The gates to the site are open from 8:30-5:00 and the interpretation center is open from 9:00-4:00. Your typical day would begin at 8:30AM and end at 5:00PM, with the day broken up into different tasks.

Training will be provided, as well as all necessary clothing and materials.

Site Accommodations

We have spaces to accommodate campers or RVs, with two 50 AMP ports and five 30 AMP ports. There is also a communal fridge/freezer and a washing machine and dryer on site. We do NOT have wifi at the site.

Nearby Amenities

Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located 30 miles east of Billings, MT. Billings has a population of 180,000 and offers a variety of grocery stores, restaurants, and forms of entertainment.

You will also find several state parks and scenic areas that are only a short drive from the site. Some of these include: Pictograph Cave State Park, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Beartooth Pass, Red Lodge, etc.
