ADDRESS: Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area; 902 Wasco Avenue, Suite 200; Hood River, Oregon 97031

DEPT: Forest Service

DATES: 4/28/2023 – 10/4/2023

DESCRIPTION:

Volunteer campground host at the Eagle Creek Overlook Group Campground in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area for the Summer of 2023.

The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is looking for an enthusiastic couple to perform the duties of Campsite Host for the Eagle Creek Overlook Group Campsite for 2023! This opportunity is in the Columbia River Gorge, in close proximity to the community of Cascade Locks, Oregon and the many recreational opportunities located nearby. Eagle Creek Overlook is located close to the immensely popular Eagle Creek Trail and Recreation Area, which includes a 17-site campground, day-use area, and trailhead for access to Eagle Creek. The Overlook Group Site was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s for public viewing of the construction of Bonneville Dam. The site is offered under a reservation-only system through recreation.gov and accommodates up to 90 people at one time. It includes a covered pavilion, picnic tables, fire rings, and ADA-accessible flush toilets.

The duties and responsibilities of this opportunity are as follows: Ensure that users of the site have reservations and only occupy the site during their assigned reservation period, educate regarding rules and regulations of the site (quiet hours, occupant limit, etc.), report serious violations of regulations to the Forest Service Point of Contact or Law Enforcement as warranted, clean and maintain restrooms, fire rings, and grounds upon check-out of reservations, ensure site is clean for incoming reservation groups, and assist Eagle Creek Day Use and Campground hosts as needed. As this opportunity requires extensive public interaction, a person or couple who has an affinity for public engagement is needed. Past campground host experience is helpful, but not required. Training will be provided by the Forest Service. Electric, water and sewer hookups are provided as well as reimbursement for official travel and propane. Host receives $16 per day for living reimbursements. This site is next to train tracks and Interstate 84. Dates would be April 28th – Oct 4th, 2023. Actual camping season is May 1st – Sept. 30th, 2023.
