Job Description

PARK FACTS
One of the largest county parks in the State of Washington, Liberty Lake Regional Park contains over 3,591 acres of wetlands, lakeshore, mountain forest, irrigated turf, natural areas and an ORV Park as well as picnic shelters, playground equipment, barbecues, a lifeguarded beach, campground with tent sites, RV site and lake-view cabins, and an extensive backcountry trail system.

WORK SCHEDULE
Campground hosts work a minimum of 20 hours per week each over 5 consecutive days, with each host being scheduled for two consecutive days off and schedules coordinated to provide “host services” 7 days per week. Work schedules are determined by camp host team with approval from the Park Operations Division Manager and typically involve mid-day and early-evening activities prepping campsites in between “check out” and “check in” times and assisting with reservations, collection of fees, and arrivals/check-in.

The position allocated to this class performs a variety of duties associated with campground operations/management, including greeting and assisting visitors, promoting safe and considerate behavior among campers/visitors and performing light maintenance duties at a Spokane County campground facility. Incumbents are required to reside at the assigned campground, functioning as a visible campground representative of the Spokane County Parks, Recreation and Golf Department and serving as a liaison between campground users and park staff. Work is performed independently within the scope of duties, under the direction of the Recreation Program Manager. Incumbents may oversee and supervise the work of extra help park employees as needed. Positions are seasonal (generally May 1- September 30), requiring a flexible schedule and weekend work.

 

Examples of Duties

Assists visitors/campers by providing information about the park, answering questions and explaining rules.

Collects campground user fees. Utilizes Itinio Campground Reservation software for point of sale transactions and reservations.

Assists campground users with check in and check out procedures. Maintains records of occupied sites and directs walk-in campers to vacant sites.

Provides general security/observation of campground, monitoring compliance with campground and park rules. Advises campers of unintentional or minor rule violations. Contacts law enforcement and/or park personnel when flagrant rule violations, urgent security and/or safety incidents occur.

Monitors campground traffic and directs park users to day-use areas.

Tidies restrooms and cabins, replenishes supplies, addresses light maintenance issues as needed. Duties may require use of tools, light duty power equipment, maintenance vehicle(s), cleaning supplies, etc.

Picks up litter in and around campsites; sweeps camp area and cleans picnic tables. Reports any damaged tables, trees or equipment to park staff.

Bundles, sells and distributes firewood when available.

As needed and assigned, acts as the main on-sight supervisor of extra help park workers, monitoring worker safety, assisting with patron issues, managing rest and meal periods, and assigning light duties.

Effectively work as a team with park, maintenance and special event staff.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Extensive camping experience, sufficient to assist a broad range of campground users, and a variety of recreational vehicles types. Experience which demonstrates an ability to perform outdoor physical labor, as required by the position. Experience working with the public, providing exceptional customer service.

RESIDENCY: Incumbents are required to reside at the assigned campground, in a personally owned and insured travel trailer or other recreational vehicle. Designated host campsite provided.

BACKGROUND CHECK: All positions require successful clearance of a criminal history background check.

LICENSE: Valid driver’s license, with driving record free from serious or frequent violations.
