ADDRESS: 8738 Ranger Road Happy Jack, Arizona, 86024

DEPT: Forest Service

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Spend your summer with us in the cool ponderosa pines of Northern Arizona! The Mogollon Rim Ranger District sits at elevations between 6500-8000′. There are opportunities for fishing, boating, wildlife watching, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking and much more. Duties include cleaning of campground facilities, restrooms, picnic tables, individual and group campsites, and compliance. Excellent customer service skills are imperative. Hosts live on site in the campground. The campgrounds are supported and operated by the Forest Service, not a concessionaire. We take great pride in this and it shows. Rock Crossing Campground is one of the finest in Arizona and situated adjacent to the C.C. Cragin Reservoir, one of the best areas for fishing in the area. Rock Crossing has water/sewer hook ups and we offer propane and a cell booster during your stay. There is no electricity. The campground has 33 sites, 16 of which are on a reservation system. We are seeking 2 parties for this site. The site is located in close proximity to our district office. Clint’s Well is a much smaller campground with 7 sites that are first come/first served. This campground is on the highway and near a small café, convenience store, and gas station. The site is primitive with no electric, water, or sewer hook ups. We do provide a water buffalo and propane. Kehl Springs campground is also small with 8 total sites that are first come first served. This campground is about 30 minutes from pavement. The site is primitive with no electric, water, or sewer hook ups. We do provide a water buffalo and propane as well as a $15/day stipend. Lastly, the Knoll Lake campground is much further afield and is also first come/first served. There are 31 sites. Another beautiful location, though much more remote. There is great fishing at Knoll Lake. At Knoll Lake we offer a reimbursement/stipend of $25/day because it is approximately a 1 hr drive to/from pavement. The road to Knoll Lake is rough in some places and large equipment is not recommended. There are also water/sewer hook ups and we provide a cell booster. Along the way you drive across one of the most striking features in the state, the Mogollon Rim Escarpment that offers expansive views of the Arizona landscape. Cell coverage can be a challenge at these locations even with provided boosters. Verizon is your best bet for coverage in the area.

The start and end dates are negotiable. We typically look for a full commitment from early May to mid-September. Working days are Thursday through Sunday or Monday. Our campgrounds are in high demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends.
