ADDRESS: 3050 N.E. 3rd Street Prineville, Oregon, 97754

DATES: 2025-05-19

DEPT: Bureau of Land Management

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This volunteer opportunity is a four-month camp host position located at the Big Bend Campground on the Crooked River outside of the town of Prineville, OR. Duties include visiting the 12 Recreation sites within the corridor, visitor contacts, light maintenance and assisting Park Rangers with various projects. The tentative schedule is Friday through Monday, 3 to 4 hours per day. Full RV hook-ups are available.

Originating in the lush Ponderosa pine forests of Central Oregon’s Ochoco Mountains, the Crooked River flows through diverse landscapes before descending through a desert gorge to its confluence with the Deschutes River. The 8-mile Chimney Rock segment offers 9 developed campgrounds and 3 day-use areas and is popular for camping, fishing, hiking, bicycling and for viewing eagles, ospreys and other wildlife. The 2.6-mile (round trip) hike to Chimney Rock rewards visitors with expansive views of the Crooked River Canyon and Cascades.
