JOB DESCRIPTION:

The campground host volunteer will be located in Crystal Lake Campground and Recreation Area, 26 miles north of the city of Azusa, CA.

The host will use excellent customer service skills to welcome visitors and help them have an enjoyable and responsible stay. The host will represent the Forest Service and assist with public contacts by providing directions, explaining rules and regulations, answering questions, and disseminating general information. The host will wear a Forest Service uniform and name tag while on duty in the campground.

Routinely, hosts perform minor maintenance including rake campsites, clean fire rings and picnic tables, pick up litter, inspect the campground, check water systems, remove and/or cover graffiti, monitor sign boards, weed whack, and clean and stock restrooms. The host will report vandalism, maintenance issues, and other problems to Forest Service personnel.

Campground Hosts will educate campers on Leave No Trace principles and fee compliance, which includes the distribution of fee envelopes and where to deposit them. However, hosts are not responsible for collecting any fees from campers or visitors.

Hosts will conduct morning and evening campground rounds. Campground hosts will have a Forest Service radio and carry the radio when on duty in the campground and conducting rounds. Hosts shall communicate with Angeles NF dispatch to report incidents and emergencies.

Safety is imperative for hosts as you work in a remote outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions. The host will work in accordance with training, and wear personal protective equipment in accordance with the campground host job hazard analysis. If visitors become hostile, the host will disengage contact and report to law enforcement if appropriate. The Campground Host will work with others in the area, including other volunteer groups, the owner of the Crystal Lake store, ANF staff, etc.

The volunteer will conduct and document a tailgate safety session prior to engaging in work to discuss the types of work involved with the project, hazards and precautions, fire danger levels/project activity levels (PAL), emergency evacuation/communications plan, and seek crew input on safety. Volunteers will review any physical limitations that would either be aggravated by or restrict participation in the work with the Volunteer Liaison. The volunteer is empowered to stop work at any time they perceive a potential hazard is developing.

The host will have access to water and electricity hookups along with a dump station at the host site. There is no telephone service at the campground.

Campground hosts shall complete a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
