DEPT: Forest Service

DATES: 4/28/2023 – 10/4/2023

DESCRIPTION:

Host at the Wahkeena Falls Day Use/Trailhead Site in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area for the Summer of 2023.

The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area is looking for an enthusiastic couple to perform the duties of Day Use Site Host for the Wahkeena Falls Day Use Site for 2023! This opportunity is in the Columbia River Gorge, close to the community of Cascade Locks, Oregon and the many recreational opportunities located nearby. Wahkeena Falls Day Use Site is located on the Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. Route 30), and includes parking, a picnic area, and toilet facilities. It is a popular site along the Historic Highway and serves as a trailhead for the Wahkeena Falls Trail and an access point to an extensive system of trails. The site is also close to Multnomah Falls, one of the most popular natural attractions in the Pacific Northwest.

The duties and responsibilities of this opportunity are as follows: Maintain a clean and attractive site for day use visitors including mowing, raking and weeding, educate regarding rules and regulations of the site, report serious violations of regulations to the Forest Service Point of Contact or Law Enforcement as warranted, clean and maintain restrooms, grills, and grounds on a daily basis, provide general area information to the public, and attend host and unit trainings as needed. As this opportunity requires extensive public interaction, a couple who has an affinity for public engagement is needed. Past host experience is helpful, but not required. Training will be provided by the Forest Service. Electric, water and sewer hookups are provided as well as reimbursement for official travel and propane. Host receives $16 per day for living reimbursements. This site is close to train tracks. Dates would be April 28th – October 4th, 2023. Actual volunteer work would occur from May 1st to September 30th, 2023.
