JOB DESCRIPTION:

Croatan National Forest is looking for energetic, hardworking, friendly individuals and couples to serve as volunteer camp hosts at Flanner’s beach Campground on the Croatan Ranger District.

 

The Croatan National Forest, one of four National Forests in North Carolina. It is comprised of pine forests, saltwater estuaries, bogs and raised swamps called pocosins. It is the only forest east of the Mississippi River that has true pocosins. Bordered on three sides by tidal rivers and the Bogue Sound, the forest is defined by water. All this water provides a variety of recreation and diversity of wildlife- from deer, black bears, and turkeys to wading birds, ospreys and alligators. Canoeing and fishing are popular on blackwater creeks and saltwater marshes. The Croatan is also home to endangered animals and plants such as the red cockaded woodpecker, carnivorous Venus flytrap, sundew and pitcher plant.

 

Seeking people who are good stewards of the land, have excellent customer service skills, friendly and patient personalities, ability to perform daily campsite and restroom cleaning, Grounds maintenance, monitor camping and tracking reservations. Volunteer hosts must own their own accommodation (RV/Camper/Motorhome) to live on site; tents are not permitted.

 

Requirements for Volunteers

         Be a U.S. citizen and provide a permanent mailing address.

         Pass a background check and possess a valid state driver’s license.

         Provide a professional reference to verify experience, if requested.

         Provide your own personal camping accommodations

         Have a positive and helpful attitude.

         Be able to work safely without daily supervision.

         Represent the Forest Service to the public in a respectful manner.

         Assist Visitors with reservations and understanding rules and regulations for the campground and day use area

         Be able complete Basic lawn care (mowing, weed eating, trash pickup, etc.)

         Be Present in campground for Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays

         Perform General Clean up of Day use area, Campground and Restrooms.

         Observe and report disruptive and threating behavior to Forest Service law enforcement Volunteers are not to act in a law enforcement capacity.
