ADDRESS: 46375 Lighthouse Road Buxton, North Carolina, 27920
DATES: 2025-03-01
DEPT: National Park Service
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a volunteer that can be on site as soon as possible after submitting a quality, completed volunteer application and interviewing for the position.
The Hatteras Island District, located within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, seeks out enthusiastic people who are happy to engage the public about a rich, seaside history in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The off season is primarily October through April, with lower visitation and minimal operations and programming available. During the summer season from May through September, visitation to Cape Hatteras National Seashore and the Hatteras lighthouse increases although the lighthouse is not open for climbing. In addition, talks and outdoor programs are conducted by rangers, so support from volunteers with visitor center and information desk duties are vital to operations at the Hatteras Lighthouse.
As team members, you will actively participate in duties to support the interpretive operations and mission goals of the park. A typical day includes, opening and closing the visitor center, staffing the visitor center, answering questions, and swearing in Junior Rangers.
An RV site with full hook-ups (must provide your own RV) is available with a 32 hour a week commitment.
If this sounds like what you’re looking for, please do not hesitate to apply or reach out with any questions
