Job Description
This position is open! The position is a 9-month commitment from April 1st, 2024, through January 1st, 2025.
We reside on an 11-acre, private, remote mountain ranch and homestead in northern New Mexico, surrounded by private ranches, the Santa Fe National Park, and wilderness. Our property includes a 1960s A-frame lodge, barn, horse paddocks, two ponds, and stunning views of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains.
As a private residence, we are looking for a responsible single person or couple (no children) to care for our property throughout the summer. The property owner, a busy individual in her 50s who runs a catering business, requires reliable assistance in property maintenance, security, and animal care.
Key responsibilities include:
-Cleaning of decks and porch areas
-Stacking bags of pellets for the stove, weekly dump, and recycling runs.
– Caring for three horses by providing food, water, grooming, and hand walking for exercise.
-Paddock maintenance. Daily manure collection and compost management.
– Maintaining the 1,000 sq. ft. hay barn, including regular cleaning, organization, and handling hay deliveries throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
-Maintaining chicken health, including feeding, watering, and coop maintenance with regular cleaning and composting of waste.
– Managing composting activities, involving watering down and mixing catering-generated compost into compost to fertilize the gardens in spring.
– Regular clearing of underbrush, manure, and fallen limbs across the property on a monthly/seasonal basis.
– Ongoing minor repairs to the property’s fences, which are essential for the owner’s three Great Pyrenees dogs.
-During wedding season, additional help with packing and loading a catering truck.
-Catering/kitchen prep if inclined to work with food, bonus points if yes.
-Garden projects, including building outdoor beds in owner 1/2 acer garden, irrigation, and soil management.
-In addition, carpentry skills are required for performing various minor maintenance and improvements. Nothing major.
-Security of the property, including monitoring any visitors and crews.
The general vibe on the property is fun, lively, disciplined, routine, and systematic. The animals are all well-loved, and the owner is kind and generous. You will be treated respectfully and as a part of the family here. We ask for the same in return.
Provisions:
You will be given use a 40×40 sf cement slab with full RV hookups.
Included: electricity, septic, water, internet, trash fees, and full use of the garden and its products.
Hours and pay:
The work season is from April 1st through January 1st.
Work days may vary but generally are from Wednesday through Sunday—five hours per person/day.
7 am-12 pm. The rest of the day is yours to do with what you wish. Additional paid hours are possible depending on your skills.
Pay is $1700 per month total, including RV space and utilities.
