Job Description

The Sailors Campground Host serves as an on-site representative for Ahtna, Inc. Land Department. Host will ensure that campers have an amazing experience throughout their stay by providing exceptional customer service such as checking campers in, serving as informational guides, and maintaining facilities. They also monitor the premises, inform guests of campground rules and regulations, and report violations to the Ahtna Permitting and Compliance Specialist (PCS) and/or the Alaska State Troopers (AST). Sailors Campground is located at milepost 129 Richardson Highway and Gulkana River access. There is no electrical power to campsites.

•    Free assigned campsite on the shores of the Gulkana River.
•    $1,000/month stipend. Paid bi-monthly.
•    Participate in various Ahtna staff programs.
•    Learn about the Ahtna culture and experience the incredible Copper River Basin.
•    Rewarding experience fostering a warm and welcoming environment for guests. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•    Work period is May 22 – September 6.
•    Approximately 24 hours per week, including most weekends and all holidays.
•    Create a welcoming environment by assisting campers with check-in, e.g., locating a site.
•    Provide campers information about the local area and connect them to relevant resources.
•    Report maintenance issues.
•    Post your on-site availability publicly and be available as posted.
•    Notify Ahtna staff of significant issues, e.g., safety, security, maintenance, complaints, etc.
•    Inform visitors of rules and regulations.
•    Report violations to PCS and/or the AST.
•    Maintain an alcohol-free campsite.
•    Conduct walkthrough of campground.
•    Pick up trash around camp sites, picnic tables, and fire rings.
•    Check porta-potty and perform a spot clean.
•    Be available to answer questions, give directions, and assist campers.
•    Document work hours and submit to Ahtna staff.

 

Qualification Requirements

•    Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
•    Recreational Vehicle (RV), camper trailer, truck camper or tent sufficient to house Host.
•    Minimum age: 21
•    Host orientation: May 2023. Time and Location TBD
