JOB DESCRIPTION:

1.   San Augustine, Mill Creek, and Rayburn Parks: The Camp Host(s) will provide general information and customer service to registered campers and park customers by answering general questions about the campground, perform check-ins/outs of registered campers, issue camping tags, perform minor groundskeeping duties such as mowing campsites and recreation areas as needed, clearing campsites and roadways of debris (leaf litter/pine straw) as needed, minor restroom cleanings (as needed), working with their fellow volunteers at the park and performing other duties as assigned. Volunteers will also assist with the Water Safety Program, informing visitors about Watery Safety, maintaining life-jacket loaner boards (where available) and working with both the Volunteer Program and Water Safety Program Coordinators to perform and record water safety contacts. All volunteers and anyone, physically living with the volunteer (18 years of age and older) must submit to a Background Check. Only individuals who can pass the Background Check will be accepted as Campground Host volunteers and/or allowed to live onsite within the campground. Campground Host volunteers will provide 20 service hours a week (80 service hours a month) per individual in exchange for their campsite, see Additional Requirements for more information. It is encouraged that Campground Host Volunteers at a park work together to create their own schedule. Volunteer service days are rendered seven days a week and on Holidays. a.   San Augustine Park: 100 campsites, with a group (day-use) pavilion, three restrooms, playground, swim beach and boat ramp. All camping reservations and group pavilion rental are handled through Recreation.gov. Volunteers are not responsible for processing any transactions and are not allowed to make reservations and/or process payment on behalf of the customer. The boat ramp and swim beach are available to both registered campers and day-use customers. Day-use customers make payment for daily boat launch and/or swim beach fees at the automated fee machine, located within the park.

 

b.   Rayburn Park: 50 campsites, two restrooms, two boat ramps and one playground. All reservations are processed through Recreation.gov. Volunteers are not responsible for processing any transactions and are not allowed to make reservations and/or process payment on behalf of the customer. The boat ramp is available to both registered campers and day-use customers. Day-use customers can pay their daily launch fees at the automated fee machine, located within the park.

 

c.   Mill Creek Park: 110 campsites, four restrooms, one group shelter, one swim beach, one playground, and one boat ramp. All reservations are processed through Recreation.gov. Volunteers are not responsible for processing any transactions and are not allowed to make reservations and/or process payment on behalf of the customer. The boat ramp is available to both registered campers and day-use customers. Day-use customers can pay their daily launch fees at the automated fee machine, located within the park.

 

Additional: Assist USACE Maintenance and Park Ranger personnel in minor maintenance duties; such as walking/hiking trail maintenance, minor landscaping needs (mowing, picking up limbs/sticks and leaf litter), building and installing picnic tables, park benches and other recreation amenities. Campground Host Volunteers are also encouraged to contribute to the needs of the park(s) through service projects of their own design by working with their Park Champion (assigned Park Ranger) to complete these projects such as repainting restrooms.  

 

Volunteers will provide their own, self-contained travel trailer, RV and/or motorhome that is taxed, titled and licensed (“road worthy”). In exchanged for providing 20 service hours a week, 80 hours a month, volunteers will be provided a campsite with electrical (50 amp), water and sewer utilities. Some camp host sites are equipped with RV covers. Please contact the Lake POC for more information on which volunteer sites are vacant.
