JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks have Campground Host positions available in each district of the parks. In Kings Canyon, we are looking for hosts in the Grant Grove and Cedar Grove areas of the park and in Sequoia, we are looking for hosts in Lodgepole, Mineral King, and the Foothills. Most campgrounds are open from May through September, although one campground located in the Foothills and one in Grant Grove are open year-round.

Campgrounds range from the foothills at 2,000 feet elevation, where summers are hot and dry, to approximately 7,000 feet elevation, where summer days are warm with cool nights. The majority of work is performed outdoors in the campgrounds. Locations are in prime black bear habitat, so bear encounters are likely. The closest metropolitan areas are Fresno and Visalia. Campgrounds have the following amenities; please indicate which you would be interested in hosting at:

• Azalea and Potwisha Campgrounds: 30/50 amps, water, and sewer
• Buckeye Campground: van only, 30/50 amps, water, and sewer
• Sheep Creek Campground: 15 amps, water, and sewer
• Lodgepole and Sunset Campgrounds: 30 amps and water; no sewer
• Dorst Campground: water only; no sewer or electric
• Mineral King Campgrounds: van only, dry camping

Service Description:

• Greet customers and demonstrate a friendly, courteous attitude with visitors and colleagues.
• Follow NPS, park, and workgroup procedures and policies.
• When in uniform or perceived as a park representative, support and explain agency policies in a nonpartisan and courteous way, consulting the supervisor when uncertain.
• Assist with campground and kiosk operations.
• Verify camper reservations using a Daily Arrivals List.
• Rove campground daily and educate campers on park and campground regulations, including proper food storage in black bear habitat.
• Help keep campground clean by assisting with micro-trash pick-up.
• Provide visitors with information on recreational opportunities in the park and surrounding areas, including the evening campfire programs and other Ranger programs.
• Provide information and assistance to visitors regarding Recreation.gov.
• Encourage payment of fees through Recreation.gov and/or turn visitors away when the campground is full.
• Actively participate in the park-wide safety program; inform visitors of potential dangers, with a special emphasis on river safety.
• Perform minor maintenance when directed, if qualified; report all other maintenance problems to the campground supervisor.
• Gather information on visitor use and inform the supervisor of campground problems.
• Notify supervisor or law enforcement rangers if illegal activity is observed.
• Resolve visitor complaints or concerns when possible and direct other issues to the supervisor, law enforcement, or dispatch as necessary.
• Receive and assist in the delivery of emergency messages for visitors.
• Complete other duties or tasks as may be mutually agreed upon.
