Job Description
Overview
The Glen Hills Campground Host is a volunteer camper who provides hospitality and information to other campers during a contracted period in the camping season. Hosts may be individuals or couples and are responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for park visitors.
Responsibilities
The primary duties of a Campground Host include:
Hospitality & Camper Assistance:
-Greet campers and assist with self-registration and reservations.
-Provide information about local attractions and park resources.
-Answer camper questions and encourage voluntary compliance with park rules.
-Act as a positive role model by following all park regulations.
Observation & Reporting:
-Walk through the campgrounds several times daily to remain visible and approachable.
-Notify park staff of issues or concerns and contact the Parks Manager, Parks Administrator or Sheriff’s Department for enforcement or emergencies.
Light Maintenance Tasks (as assigned by the Park Manager):
-Stock bathroom supplies and pick up litter.
-Remove trash from vacant campsites.
Emergency & Safety:
-Alert campers to weather emergencies and other urgent situations.
-Ensure communication with park staff remains consistent.
Schedule & Commitment
Occupancy is expected during the duration of contracted obligation.
Hosts typically work only a few hours per day with very flexible hours.
Hosts are “on duty” at least 3-5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, with full days off typically taken on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
A minimum commitment of one month is required.
What Hosts Are provided With
A campsite within the park.
A duty phone during non-staff hours to assist with reservations and communication with staff.
Orientation and training for the role, including safety measures, emergency procedures, and equipment use.
Note: Hosts must provide their own camping unit as the County does not provide housing.
Preferred Qualifications
-Strong camping experience
-Knowledge of the surrounding area or willingness to learn.
-An outgoing, friendly personality and ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
-Must pass a background check.
Reporting Structure
Hosts report directly to the onsite St. Croix County Parks Staff.
