Job Description
The Army Corps of Engineers- Dworshak Project is recruiting maintenance volunteer singles or couples for Dworshak Dam and Reservoir! We are seeking volunteers to work from early May to early September. Dworshak is the third tallest dam in the United States and holds back a 54-mile reservoir located outside of the very small town Ahsahka. The North Fork of the Clearwater River flows into and out of the reservoir. At the Dworshak Project we have a three-story visitor center, over twenty miles of hiking trails, one full-service campground, three primitive campgrounds, four-day use areas, seven boat ramps, and over seventy mini-camps which are accessible by boat.
Your job duties at Dworshak would include cleaning restrooms, campsites and fire rings, picking up litter, empting garbage cans, mowing lawns, operating a weed eater, trimming branches, painting, and using the blower at our units around the Visitor Center. Transportation and supplies for completing tasks are provided. The schedule for our Volunteers is usually a rotating three days on- three days off. The rotating schedule allows you time to explore this incredible area. We ask that each of our volunteers work approximately 18-22 hours during the three-day period- depending on mowing requirements, etc. Your starting and ending hours for the day are flexible. We also reimburse safety shoes up to $100.00 for anyone who will be mowing or string trimming.
The campsite where you will make your home is situated in Volunteer Village, which has four campsites and is less than a 1/4 mile from the Visitor Center. We provide you with a full-service campsite which has full hookups, propane, and 50-amp electricity. We also provided free laundry facilities (just down the road), a freezer, and fridge (as long as they are up and running). These items will be shared with the other volunteer couples. Pets are always welcome! Due to our mountainous terrain Verizon is the only cell provider that works in the area, and we cannot guarantee you will have cell or satellite reception at your site. We now have WIFI at volunteer village.
The town of Orofino is seven miles away and has your basic needs covered (hospital, library, movie theater, grocery stores). We are four hours from Missoula, Montana and an hour to the Washington border (Clarkson). The nearest airport and large stores are in Lewiston, Idaho about 45 minutes away and a large airport is located in Spokane, Washington, about three hours away.
If this sounds like an opportunity you might be interested in this summer, please give me a call and we can discuss this position further.
